Raku

The word Raku was originally derived from the Chinese character meaning enjoyment, pleasure, contentment, and ease. The technique is both old and new. Old because of its origin in Japan centuries ago and new because American potters have revived and changed the firing process with the addition of smoking the pieces after they are pulled hot from a kiln. The firing is fast, spontaneous, and celebrates the beauty of the accidental.
