“Twisted Sister #9’
Janet Burner
From the moment desert dweller Janet Burner met master potter Harry Holl of Scargo Stoneware Pottery in Dennis, she knew she had found her calling. After completing a potter’s apprenticeship with Holl, Burner returned every summer for thirty+ years to work in Holl’s utopia.
Burner founded Sabino Stoneware Pottery, a name allowing her to replicate Holl’s signature: SSP. With stoneware and porcelain, Burner creates eclectic pieces by hand building, throwing or sculpting. Implementing unique or invented surface applications, such as terra sigilatta (refined clay slip), she creates rich colors and textures on her striking, expressive forms.
In a serendipitous twist, Burner introduced Harry Holl, Cape Cod Museum of Art co-founder, to Davenport West, who was searching for a new home for the building you are standing in!
